Re:

Believe me, C C T, my friend wanted to! Of course he later admitted that the timing was indeed perfect, the line fitting to the situation. He was just upset because he was on the receiving end! If the roles had been reversed, who knows how I would have faired . . . ?

Re:

To be perfectly honest, Against, I was a fan of Seinfeld's stand-up routines, but never a fan of the show itself. But the sentiment is the same. I've heard thousands of one-liners over the years from many different sources. And when the timing is right, like in this particular case, you launch one! It especially helps if the person standing nearby knows the line as well, as my friend did! Otherwise the joke is somewhat lost . . .

Re:

The opportunity was just perfect, Kabu, and my friend knew it. Although he was somewhat angry at the time, years later he had to admit that the timing was incredible perfect for such a comment! I think he was also somewhat jealous that he didn't think of it first . . .

Re: JimmyA

I don't think so, Sir Wiley. Although this incident took place about 25 years ago, I clearly remember the boss being angry enough to spit nails. He never really had that much of a sense of humor in the first place! I think if I had said that out loud, I would have probably been the one to be fired, regardless of who else may have laughed! No, that had to be something just between my friend and I . . .

Re:

As the saying goes, FSI, there's a time and place for everything. And I guess that goes for the 'timing' and 'placing' of certain comments. No one wants to laugh at something while the boss is tearing into people! But that's why I did it . . .

That's what I call a classic recycle of old material.  About the only lines that I can think of that are quipped from more modern comedies in an appropriate situation are some from Seinfeld,  e.g.  "King of your domain?"  "Soup Nazi!"

Oh you should have asked the question out loud, the pair of you would have cracked up, and maybe the boss too....................

That is funny how you had him fighting so hard to laugh after you all had received the tongue lashing from the boss. When I was a student teacher, I had to really fight hard at times not to laugh at some of the antics and witty things students did and said, respectively.
