My wife and I also have problems with mold growing on certain parts of our house. She obtained a large sprayer that works with a pump on top, and fills it with diluted bleach! It's a lot more subtle than it sounds, and it really works. But we too try to orchestrate it so that the task is completed just before it rains. I don't think it really affects the grounds or the critters because it is diluted and thinly sprayed on. But, it works . . .

Since moss struggles to grow up here and only grows on rocks and wood and not on the house, I encourage it to grow.

Now days I leave it to the maintenance department of our apartment complex. Here they do a really good job of that sort of thing.
