Re: Re: Re:

Really, Kabu? That's actually quite amazing. But I guess it must come down to the record-keeping of the day. That's why we assumed that the census from back then was probably wrong . . . and we were right!

Re: Re:

On the other hand, my Grandmother shaved at least 5 years off her age somewhere along her life span. we were shocked that she was half way through her 90's when she died and we saw her certificates.

Re: Jimmy

I know that's usually true, Naut, but in this particular case, my mom wasn't even aware that there was a discrepancy. I'm sure she wouldn't have minded gaining back a year, but, it is what it is. Besides, isn't 80 the new 60 . . . ?

Re:

Well, Justi, I don't suppose it would be a bad thing to discover that we were younger than we originally thought, but that seems unlikely. I'm sure that, whatever birthdate appears on our birth cerificates, it has to be legit! Stranger things have happened though . . .

Jimmy

I'm sure your Mom's right! On the other hand, don't ladies usually prefer to be kown as younger than they actually are?

I am interested in what all you will run upon in this quest.

Re:

And this was an easy one, Annicita! Some family mysteries involve illegitimate offspring and cousins who married each other. This was just a number that was written by mistake! Whew!

Re:

It is for all of us, Kabu. It's one of those things that no one can change or control. But at least your date-of-birth should be accurate! I know I would be confused to read some census from, say, 1965, and see that my date-of-birth was different from what I had known all along! But mom wasn't fazed at all, as we suspected she wouldn't be . . .

Re:

And that's why, adnohr, Mother knows best! And the best part was, she didn't hesitate for a second, thinking that perhaps that census taker was right all along! Ya can't fool mom . . . !

Re:

We kinda knew it too, TAPS. We just needed verification, I guess. With just one stroke of someone's pencil, they almost changed my mom's birth certificate! She actually got a slight kick out of hearing about that census taker's mistake! We knew how old she was all the time . . .

Re: Re:

I suppose she is, C C T, but I never meant to imply anything. In fact, I almost wish she were born in '35 instead of '34 so she would get a whole year back for herself! No matter. She's fine, and will be a healthy 80 this June . . .

Re:

We assumed that too, FSI, but it's good to get a definitive answer from the one person who should know . . .

Re:

I wish you would not keep implying that your Mum is old Jimmy.  My Mum would never tell anyone her age. Your Mum is a spring chicken these days.

I am glad to see that the mystery was solved...That makes sense that the census taker was wrong.
