Re: So sad about the drowned apple trees!
Well Ciel I think they would be cheaper to import. I somehow can't hack them like lettuce grown in a pellet of whatever just sucking nutriments from a trough. You may be made of stronger stuff. No Koala, ha, ha.

Re:
Yes Pat one sees folk picking blackberries etc from hedgerows . It is not so bad now the petrol is lead free. Not very nice though all the dust and detritus swirling around. No I don't go a a lot on beetroot, just grow a few to give away.

Re: Naut

Well it is a kind of broccoli but more like calabrese with sprouting spears. Naut. Try some when you see it in the supermarket look for fresh green smaller stems. I grow it under nets to stop the butterflies.

Re: A
No he keeps on moaning, A. One has to ignore it or one would hit him on the head with a shovel.

Too bad about the cider - I remember having some the last time I was over there, and I loved it. Try to roast young beets with a few other veggies, and sprinkle with EVO and a bit of balsamic vinegar - you'll like it! I had to look up tender-stem - we call that stuff broccoli...

I remember back in 2012, some crops did not grow well because we had received an early spring

state, even with an average rainfall of 60-70 inches, because it's a major apple and fruit-growing area. I hate to hear of yours being drowned out.

You're right about food grown too close to the highway: lots of auto exaust emissions and tossed out cigarette butts, garbage, etc. - unless Brit motorists are much neater than those in the U.S. Since I eat beats only about once a year, I'd never go to the work of planting cultivating harvesting.

So sad about the drowned apple trees!
I wonder, could they be grown hydroponically?
