Childhood trauma--

especially the long-term kinds of trauma--trap a child in never-ending childhood, waiting, maybe, for things to be made right, for the parent to love and cherish, for family to be allies instead of adversaries...

You might find it interesting to read up on Complex PTSD, in relation to sociopathic behaviors.

Looking back, I think my husband might have been a bit of a sociopath.  He definitely had traumatic abuse in his early life that I didn't know about until way too late.  But, I have never regretted loving him.

I know a few people who may fit into these categories, but it's very difficult to look upon any of them as either a psychopath or a sociopath! As for myself, I'm definitely too shy and withdrawn to be either . . .
