My first foster grandmother kept her flour in a huge, covered barrel behind the pantry door. When she was teaching me to bake, there was the repetitive warning to always sift the flour before using it. I remember finding little creatures in the sifter.....

I do not recall ever having eaten spam. I remember in a Muppets movie, one of the characters was named Sp'am, which brought a lawsuit about from Spam.

My mom used to cook Spam for us many, many years ago, served with gravy and slices of roast beef, and it was actually quite good! But I haven't had it in such a long time, and now I too watch what I eat, so this probably won't make it onto any of my shopping lists either! And yes, the word spam does usually make people today think of junk e-mails. But for me and my sick, twisted sense of humor, when I hear the word spam, I can't help but to think of  Monty Python! If you were even vaguely familiar with them, you'd understand . . .

We couldn't afford real ham when I was a kid, so my mom got a bit

creative with Spam. Cloves and a honey-mustard glaze, baked for a while in the oven. It smelled great, and one can was just enough for the four of us along with baked potatoes and her usual fresh-from-the garden salad...

Can you remember the song Spam Spam glorious Spam nothing quite like it for... No I think it was mud, mud, for clearing the blood. But many jokes the waitress, what would you like Sir, spam and chips, or spam and toast or our very special Spam! and Spam! The tins of Spam gave us nightmares, twenty points for a tin of nonexistent salmon. Spam, Spam,Spam. Please don't save the tins.
