Promotion of a site

Any advise from members who have found the key to selling books. I was atttracted to Blogit because of the ability to post a chapter and sell it fractionally. It is elementary, that the minimal monthly cost of the site must return sales to cover this cost. I use Facebook to promote the site and I have advertised there with a great deal of "likes" but not a single sale. Where can I go to get the maximum exposure and bang for the buck?

They're an alternative to comments, for "when you read an author’s work and don’t have anything to say, but still want to let the author know that you read them."
