Re:
I have a feeling, Carolyn, that there might be a way to find what my brother found through other websites, and probably for free as well. I just never really thought to pursue it until my brother told me what he told me! But even without the physical evidence in my hands to present to my mother next week, it will still be interesting to see what she has to say . . .

Re:
That's okay, Annicita. She's allowed! Perhaps, after a certain age, people would rather not remember exactly which year they were born! It may not make that much of a difference. I mean, if you were 30, and tried to convince everyone you were 21, that's one thing. But I think, once you hit around 80, the numbers get somewhat jumbled together, and a couple of years may not matter! I always give my elders the benefit of the doubt . . .

Re:
You may be right, C C T. I mean, I know I would love to have someone come up to me and tell me that I'll be turning 53 this July and not 54! Hey, a year is a year! I don't think my mom will really care one way or the other. It's just now become a mystery that needs to be solved . . .

Re:
I'm sure, TAPS, that my mom probably has many sources to check! However, like I wrote, I haven't brought this up to her yet, so I'll have to wait and see what her initial reaction is going to be, then suggest checking those sources! There just may . . . may . . . be a chance that even she had been assuming the wrong year all this time. It's probably unlikely, but stranger things have happened! But it would be nice to give her a whole year back . . .

Re:
I have a feeling, Utah, that a lot of people are doing this today. It almost makes no difference who you are, what your background is, why you may want this information, or which sources you pursue. I think everyone should make some kind of effort to discover ( or rediscover ) their roots! But in this particular case, the 'discovery' will be whether a certain year is correct or not! I can't wait for the answer . . .

Re:
I'm sure she was, Against. At least, I hope she was! Don't worry. Although I could have already brought it up to her over the phone, something inside me wants to do it in person, with as many of my siblings present as possible! This is going to be one heck of a conversation . . . !

Re: JimmyA
I hope so, Sir Wiley. Yeah, I'm sure there are many sites and companies that go 'under investigation' for one thing or another, but I think this one may be a bit different. Like I wrote, according to my brother anyway, it wasn't as if this site simply gave that birth year on their own. He was shown an old copy of a census with that year clearly printed on it! Although there could have been an error in the information itself at that time, I have to believe that the census itself was legit. We'll see . .

Re: Jimmy
I don't think it does, Naut, especially if it means giving my mom an entire year back! Although her arrival is still almost two weeks away, I'm already 'chomping at the bit' to get this resolved! Now, we'll really have a problem if even she's confused about it . . .

Re:
I can't wait either, FSI. In a way, I'm actually hoping that the year in that census is correct! Although it would mean we've been celebrating the wrong age for my mother all this time, it would give her an entire year back as well! We'll see . . .

Knowing women she will probably go for the younger version. That's my opinion and why not Jimmy. She will probably think' the cheeky little rascals, trying to find how young I am.'

Surely your mother knows her birthday. Does she have a driver's license? It is on that. A birth certificate? First page of an old family Bible?

I have traced my family back to the 1200's, but not with that site. It is what we Mormons do.

Maybe you should ask your mother herself when she was born. . . . or could it be that she would have been too young to remember her birth? Chuckle, chuckle.

I have always operated on the principle that it's indelicate to ask a lady for her age - but maybe that doesn't apply to one's mother, LOL...

You have me wondering what the story is behind Ancestry having her birth a year later. I look very forward to reading what your mother will say about it.
