Great post

Having lived with Alzhiemer's for 5 years when my husband got sick, I do believe music does help. I always played his favorite music for him and he did really well until sundown. He had sundowners really bad.  Alzhiemer's is not the cause of death but the complications associated with it cause death.  Congestive heart failure, pneumonia, over-whelming infection are the usual causes.  I truly beiieve that the cause of Alzheimer's is fear of death and suffering.  It is easier to hide in one's mind in a safer place and time.

A wonderful post.  I fought long and hard against my Dad's decline with Alz Dx from the time he first began to suspect he had it in his early 70's until he passed away at 89 from heart failure.  What a love he was.  I still miss him even though he died in '92.

I used to play The old rugged Cross . To my mother and she would cry even when she could not speak.

I had an aunt who passed away from Alzheimers many years ago, and my dad had a slight case of it, although it was not the actual cause of his death. Yes, it is a terrilbe affliction. I saw a news story recently on the same topic of using music to help Alzheimer's patients, and they also claimed a high success rate in helping people remember certain things. The study of Alzheimer's has been an on-going thing for many years now, and not only are 'they' looking for a cure, they're also looking at possible causes. One that I heard not too long ago was eating foods that have been wrapped and/or cooked in aluminum foil! I don't know if that's been verified or not, but it's something my wife and I don't do anyway. Something to think about. Good for you for donating those used MP-3 players! Every little bit helps . . .
