Oh Naut that is so sad. They were beautiful. The stump is very tall. Do they come back after such an attack? I am sorry.

Naut..

Its a shame when an infestation leads to something like this...reminds me of the Dutch Elm disease epidemic of years ago now...the distillery I worked for back then lost about 6 elms, very tall and majestic along the main street...

Nautikos

Loved the neighbourhood and that last picture is a shame to see.

Very depressing Naut. Trees do seem to be suffering from many maladies  Ash trees have a problem here I have a Weeping Ash and would never be surprised to see it ravaged by some disease. Your street was really beautiful. I hope some kind of trees can be sourced to replace your loss.

ohh, naut that is so grievesome. that is just terrible. i grew up on a dutch elmed lined street that is until dutch elm disease killed them all off in the 70's. now that street is mostly maples and they are FINALLY getting big. Gee, i think i'd move to a tree lined street if i were you. but do get some good new trees and live to be an old man so you can finally enjoy them if you're still there.

I am so sorry I felt close to tears seeing what has happened to your lovely Drive. I cannot believe it.

This winter has had quite an impact on nature...I am thankful that my trees are still doing well.

It's a shame with all the stuff Big Ag has been able to fix as far as

pest control is concerned that they haven't been able to stop Dutch Elm disease or the ash borer. I believe that's the pest that's caused the parks dept. to take out a lot of the trees in the park around the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Pitiful view of your street in that last photo. I hope something else is put in to restore the street to full beauty.

Wow! Amazing 'before & after' shots! I'd be sad too! And we live on a road that is very straight indeed! Our only flaw? No curbs! Not a lot of fun when it rains . . .

It is heart breaking Naut. The street I grew up on once had huge cotton woods that were removed when I was a kid, but now the maples the city planted have covered the street like a tunnel and it is beautiful again.

Oh no!!  It makes me want to cry.  Pretty much the same type thing has happened to our pines here.  Every pine that was on this property or anywhere near it when we moved in nine years ago are gone after gradually sickening and drying up and being cut down.  I really miss them even though we have plenty of other kinds of trees.
