fabulous post and being a farmers little girl with the depression and the war over and done with, I probably had my little nose in the air. Then married and ended living in a double decker bus with babies and people suspicious of us. Did me the World of good.

Pat
You clearly had interesting experiences! But let me provide a slightly different perspective...
Throughout history there has never been a society that didn't have 'classes', i.e that wasn't stratified in some way, much more so in the past (e.g in feudal times) than in the modern era. And sometimes you had and (still have) castes, e.g in India...And at no time in history has there been so much class mobility, i.e. the possibility for an individual to move up as well as down; and in no Western society is there more mobility than in the gool ol' U.S. of A...But there have always been and will always be people who are better than others at doing the things that are valued in any given society, nor is it merely a question of money...
And there is this popular myth that the 'lower classes' are somehow 'morally superior' to the 'upper' ones - but there's absolutely no evidence for that...
By the way, even Marx understood that there would never be a 'classless' society...

You had to outgrow being naive early on...
Whereas, the privileged--who are given rather than earn--can remain naive and unaware until Life slaps them down hard for their delusions about How Things Are. You've cultivated insight, they don't have to.
