It seems people anticipate me saying something before I open my mouth.  I do not know if it is related to my speech delay growing up.  Sometimes, though, they think I want to say something when I don't.

No it does not happen to me, perhaps I do not notice. Honestly I think though you are a lovely person, perhaps you are perceived as a kind of intellectual threat. It might invoke a feeling of belittlement in some folk as most are insecure anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean by sound, as for me, when I hear myself on tape, I don't like my sound.

When you say 'sound,' are you refering to the actual sound of your voice, or the content of what you're saying? Because the content you can control . . . the sound you really can't. However, I must admit, there are many women ( and a handful of men ) with unbelievably annoying voices, especially on TV, which force me to either mute them, or change the channel. But, it would still be rude to say it to someone's face . . .

What a horrible, nasty thing to say to someone!  Even if someone doesn't care for the sound of your voice, they should never say so to your face.  Or behind your back!  Some people need to relearn their manners!

DrJ

People have often objected to what I said, LOL, but never to my voice...

I myself have never had something like that happen. Generally, it has been the context of what I said that was the problem, and my response depended on a variety of factors, from the person, to the tone and to how I was feeling that day.
