Re:

Thanks, Justi. I am always willing to learn new things, regardless of the topic or the source. And I'm always amazed when I learn something new that relatively contradicts things I was taught in school 40+ years ago! Sometimes I think my brain is getting 'full' . . .

Re: JimmyA

You know what's funny, Bill? I actually do remember reaching for that brass ring when I was on a carousel many, many moons ago, and I remember almost falling off my horse in the process! Today, if one kid got hurt in that attempt, the lawsuits would be through the roof! I'm sure this particular 'event' is indeed a thing of the past . . .

M In any event, this post reminded me of the brass ring that children tried to grab, riding the carousel Jimmy. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Re:

And that, Utah, makes you grunt? Hmmm . . . I'll have to ponder that one a bit!

Re:

Thanks, Kabu. Watch for the mice around your clocks! And yeah, I can understand the age/weight combination contributing to the grunting! But, now that I've made you aware of it, you may now make a conscientious effort not to . . .

Re:

Thanks, C C T. And, for the record, there are no mice in my house, the "brass ring" expression did originally pertain to carousel rides, my fingers are fine, and merbutlers don't ride sea horses, they ride in Rolls Royces! Next . . .

Re: Jimmy..heres a question for ya...

Good question, Rumor. I'm not entirely sure if that genre was ever popular or not, but there were a few comedians who did just that ( Bill Cosby immediately comes to mind ). Sometimes the routine becomes a little more intimate when the person in front of you is sitting instead of moving about on the stage. If I had a choice though, I think I would rather stand, but I guarantee I would hardly move, strictly out of fear . . .

Re:

See, FSI? It wasn't what you originally thought, was it? I think many of our phrases and expressions were bent out of context over the years, and I'm here to set them straight again . . .

Re: Jimmy

Good for you, Naut! Most people would probably state the opposite, feeling their age, as if they were 30 going on 90! Keep that positive attitude going for as long as possible . . .

Re: JimmyA

Don't blame your age, Sir Wiley. That was an honest mistake. Any one of any age could have been taken by such a scam. Meanwhile, keep working on your standing and sitting, and keep smilin' . . .

I would not want to be an injured mouse in your house Jimmy.

I must say I have never heard of the expression reach for the ring.

I suggest it might have been when two men were opting for a fight

and bets could be placed by a circle of onlookers.

I will not comment on smelly fingers, only to say I hope yours are

getting better . The only merbutlers I have seen were riding sea horses.

Very good selection this week.
