My dad used to make and deliver dough nuts and potato chips during the depression.

Re: Jimmy

Gone with the fair milk maids to heavenly pastures no doubt, Or the bad ones to a place to be chased by mad cows.

Well, with 'the butcher and the baker,' you forgot the 'candlestick maker.' Is that where you were headed? I remember the milkman coming around to our house many, many moons ago, delivering bottled milk as opposed to those cartons! Aah, it was a simpler time indeed! Then again, those bottles of milk were 25¢ back then! Now we pay around $4! Where are those milkmen now . . . ?

Well the supermarkets were smart - first they sold everything cheaper than the other guys then, when the others were out of business, they raised the prices.

Re:

Well one rarely sees them FS they now deliver overnight to avoid the traffic etc.,

No the barber had several basins he put the one that fitted on one's head and clipped around the base, well that was the local joke.

Re: Pat.

Yes Pat they have talked about it here, although the supermarkets already have a delivery service. it might be harder than they think dealing with perishable goods. Just a touch of frost this morning supposed to be getting colder here.

Re: Kabu

I never liked going to a barber, Arthur is a bit rough but one can shower directly afterwards and get rid of the spiky bits and wood shavings.

Re: CCT

Yes I guess that would stop me going Naut. As for Bennie, well if they brought him a ball he might think a bit differently.

The poem is a charmer, and so's the poet,

whether or not he know it.

CCT

We still have a postman who is sometimes a postwoman, utterly detested by Bennie, and a reader for the gas meter, also one of my doggie's hated enemies...And I used to frequent an Italian barber, who had an excellent voice and sometimes sang Nessun dorma...

Sounds like the real old style barber where one learnt all the local gossip....

Grocery delivery's the "new" thing, with a bit of a twist.

Amazon has started deliveries around Seattle and no doubt other cities. You email your order, click whatever to pay the bill, and they deliver it at the time you request. I suppose they'll soon be delivering orders by computer controlled drones.

As for the barbershop discussion and pigs with silk purses, that brought a smile...

I myself have never seen a milkman in the flesh...I have never had a visit to the salon as exciting as the one you described in the poem.
