Re: JimmyA

That's true, Sir Wiley. I never even considered that. It seemed more annoying that actually dangerous, but you may be right. I wonder what his bosses would have thought had he actually blown up that station . . .

JimmyA

Amazing that nobody came out and stopped him, the danger of a blowup caused by electronics and fuel proximity

Re:

Loved your ending, lovelylady, and I am in complete agreement with your entire rant! It was in the news recently ( I forget where ) that a retired police officer shot and killed someone in a movie theater for just that reason! I'm not saying he was right, but I can understand what 'pushed him over the edge!' I too only use my cell phone in cases of extreme emergencies. I never feel compelled to call someone just to see how they're doing while I'm out shopping or eating! What the hell is wrong with people today? Is rudeness and inconsideration now the norm? What a society . . .

Re: Re: Re:

I believe you're very sensible as well, Kabu. It's seems so many things out there today come down to simple common sense, and simple courtesy! And hey, I consider myself a bit of a 'dreamy writer' too. It's just that some of my dreams probably shouldn't be put into print . . .

Jimmy,

Hell no, my friend!  I too, saw utter humor in this!  I'm one of those few peole who doesn't use my mobile phone if I'm out and about unless I absolutely need to.  I don't use it whilst I'm in a restaurant or a store.  Unless I'm out and want to check if Margaret or my Mum might need something.  I don't use them while I'm in the cinema.  It drives me crazy every time I see some idiot sitting in a coffee shop or at the movies or eating out and gabbing away on their cell phones.  I hate it when said idiots make people wait in line at the grocery because they're too busy yapping themselves silly to pay attention to the cashier.  And above all, I get furious when I see idiots yapping away while driving!

Another of my cell phone pet peeves is when someone comes into a business yelling and screaming at someone on the other end of their phones.

So, the idiot gas attendant smashed his precious phone?  Awww...POOR BABY!

Re: Jimmy

That would be nice, Naut, but somehow I doubt it. I tend to look at it this way . . . if someone slips and falls on the ice, and injures themselves, as humorous as it might have looked, it would then probably be cruel to laugh at that person's misfortune. But in this particular case, the only 'injury' was to the guy's phone! His dignity may have been wounded a bit, but he'll probably just go out, purchase a new phone, and continue where he left off! What a society we live in today . . .

Re:

Good to know, Utah. I had a feeling that I wouldn't be alone in my assessment of this particular scenario, and the resulting chuckles. I'm just sorry that it doesn't seem to happen more often . . .

Re:

Fricking phone, Annicita? Yes, I suppose that's apropos! They really test your patience sometimes, don't they? You wouldn't believe how many times I had that internal struggle, and forced myself to not grab that phone out of their hand and throw it across a parking lot! But if I did that, then I'm the one who would get in trouble, so of course it's not worth it. So when I see incidences like this, I have to laugh . . .

Re:

We are very much alike, Kabu. I still have the first cell phone I ever got ( over 10 years ) and it's more than adequate. It's just a phone, and in case of an emergency, that's all I need! It irks me to no end to be standing in line at a Dunkin Donuts or going up and down the aisles of a grocery store, and having to pass person after person gabbing away on their phones, forcing everyone around them to listen in on half of a dull conversation! Yes, there sometimes is a 'balance in the unverse,' but not enough I'm afraid. And unfortunately, I see no end in sight with this particular madness . . .

Re:

It's actually terrible, FSI! Here's something to ponder: my wife and I saw on the news that hospital visits are up 400% due to incured injuries by people who walked into walls, fell into pits, tripped into ponds or slipped off of curbs because they weren't paying attention to their surroundings because they were on their cell phones! And in the end, guess who eventually pays for all of it . . . ?

Re:

He is indeed, lustor. They could probably train a monkey to do what this guy does, and the monkey would literally work for peanuts ( and perhaps a few bananas ) . . .

Re:

There might be, C C T. And some of it will be for the 'listeners' as opposed to the 'talkers.' Yes, there is a lot of cruelty in humor ( just watch any Three Stooges short ). But in this particular case, no one got hurt, except this guy's wallet, because he now has to go out and purchase another phone . . .

Jimmy

You certainly weren't cruel - that would apply only if your reaction had somehow affected him! But I can fully understand your sense of 'serves him right' - and maybe, if the kid is smart, he learned a valuable lesson...

I would have chuckled too and given a Yes to the Universe. How come I was able to live until now without talking on one of those things all the time. I feel no need to be involved in someone elses life constantly. I actually enjoy alone time. I have a cheapo cell phone son made me buy for Australia so I can get around and it is excellent for I can set up appointments etc without worrying my host for the phone. Trouble for son is someone showed me how to text and I cannot resist texting son ...a lot. He ignores them.

I see the humor in that episode along with other similiar episodes as well when someone's phone gets crushed...It is something how people are with their cellphones these days...

Jimmy, most humor has a streak of cruelty involved. I would not mind if someone crashed into a tree whilst using a cell phone as long as they were not hurt. I wonder if there will be any long time problems from this continuous use.
