Re: Jimmy
He has not got a garage, the houses were built when horses were in vogue, but of course not many could afford one, most pushed little trucks or walked a few miles each day .

Gee, you would think that people would like those stalls displaying various flowers. I'm sure it would be nice on any street. It's too bad Archie has to keep moving his car because of parking restrictions. If he ever comes to New York City, he would be better off leaving his car at home! Talk about nightmare parking . . .

Yes Pat they do seem a bit more lenient here than they were, the Boot stalls get away with most things even selling slices of cake. Not that I have been to one for years.

Re:
Not much difference from here Kabu, always a bit of a thrill buying from the producer rather than a clinical shelf. I would not be surprised though if someone queries the stall and making of the produce. The only thing about the Farmers Market is loaves and stuff is exposed, well it is here. It should be wrapped hygienically really.

hydroponics.
That's the future for home gardening, growing everything in your bathtub. You can always shower with the hose out back.
It's the saying 'hello,' the mutual acknowledgement that helps keep the community together, not what's said, actually. Around these parts, there is very little of it, though houses press close together and people walk their dogs down the same streets, eyes forward. But I think maybe Ethel would prefer that simple 'hello' and moving on.

Re: Taps
Yes those annual sweet peas My brother had a couple of vines, one night as he walked down his road he tossed seeds on everyone's garden some still have them growing. I like hollyhocks, but they do seem to get a kind of rust here, so I gave up on them . I am trying to grow mainly cut flowers for Archie. I do grow some bedding plants for, I was trying to think around about ten pensioners. They like begonias and petunias and (Busy Lizzies,) but I have stopped those because they had a disease, it is the damp.

I love sweetpeas, and zinnias, and hens.
We always had sweetpeas growing on the fence, they came up every year, and zinnias in our backyard flower gardens. Also lots of hollyhocks. Have you ever had hollyhocks?
As a child, I loved having hens, and eggs, and fried chicken every Sunday. I like the way you cause me to remember these things.

Nice work, that poem. Perfect last line. Wish I'd thought of it.
Small business, apparently there as well as here, is too much competition for the big boys, who let petty functionaries enforce laws that favor them.
