Thank you, Justi. I had a feeling you'd understand . . .

I agree with Naut. I read your not about the Cardinal, thanks that made the sighting even nicer.

Jimmy

I can't quite think myself into the frame of mind of parents who would dream up that kind of proposition - other than a dire need for some cash!

Re: JimmyA

That's the way to do it, Sir Wiley! In my family, we're Robert, Linda, Michael, James, Laura and John. And neither of my parents were paid a nickel for those names, or even got suggestions from anyone else! But I guess, today, nonsense is 'in' . . .

Re:

That's true, Utah. Just look at Frank Zappa's children, Dweezil and Moon Unit. How would you like to have to carry around those monikers for the rest of your life . . . ?

Re: "The Name Game" Jimmy? Shirley!

It may be a game to some, Bill, but apparently to others, there's big money involved! I just hope these idiots don't start some kind of trend in our society! Oh, and don't call me Shirley . . .

Re:

Thanks, FSI, but this seemed like an easy one to 'tear up' and discredit! There have been literally millions of kids born over the last 20 or 30 years or so, and I have never heard of anyone doing something like this before! Let's hope it's the last . . .

Re:

I totally agree, Kabu, in no uncertain terms. It seems painfully obvious that some of these parents just don't have their child's best interests at heart, nor take into consideration what the child is going to have to go through down the road! It makes me glad I was born and grew up when I did! I actually feel sorry sometimes for today's kids, seeing what some of their parents are doing to them . . .

Re:

Hard to say, C C T, what their actual motivation may have been, but the obvious signs seem to be pointing at mere greed, and financial gain. And you're right . . . I hope they never tell this girl where her name might have actually come from! Instead of future Christmas presents, they'll be using part of that money for possible therapy . . .

Re:

I'm inclined to agree, lovelylady. The fact that they even considered this, let alone went ahead and placed an ad, shows they have no shame in this matter! I'm also somewhat confused as to how anybody can afford to raise NINE children in this day and age! Of course that's why they obviously needed the money . . . $$$$$

Re:

That sounds like a fair compromise, lustor. Believe it or not, my wife and I had already picked out the names of our children, had we any. A boy would have been 'junior' after me, and a girl would have been named Alice Jean, the first names of my wife's mother and my mother. Alas, it wasn't meant to be . . .

JimmyA

We just gave all five foine Irish names, like John-Erin-David-Eileen-Kathryn, no nonsense my friend.

It could be worse Jimmy, they could be actors from Hollywood, or the music bizz and name their kidds things like Apple, and North and paid nothing at all.

You have done a fine job ripping their money making ploy apart...It is amazing the whacky things that some people come up with...

It is disgusting I agree. where do they stop. Is the child sold next? but then people have always been selling their kids. Putting them in movies and beauty pageants etc...selling them into prostitution and slavery. I used to be friends with a couple who called their baby daughter Groove. It seemed like an abuse to me sort of ruined the friendship. I see this as another form of abuse.

Jimmy just suppose someone suggested the ideal name they would have chosen, it would be not so dusty would it. When one considers what folk will do for money even selling their own offspring. Or at the other end of the scale paying huge sums for what is called talent.  I might advertise I need someone to name my pet gerbil. Of course I do not condone this money making ploy, but then I have not got seven daughters to support.

I bet the daughter will not be pleased when she is told about in a few years time.

Perhaps they want the money to buy the future grandchildren Christmas presents.

This disgusts me no end, Jimmy.  This just gives me further proof that the only reason some people pro-create is not for paternal love, but for financial gain.  Food stamps, SSI so they don't have to work...and so on and so on.

I chose long ago not to have children, and two years later actually found out that I couldn't, but had I been able to, I would NEVER have sold the rights to their names just to gain profit.  These people should truly be ashamed of themselves.

Sadly, I suspect they are not.

my daughter told her husband she was going to name the kids what she chose and he asked if he could at least give them the middle name and she was so kind to let him do that.
