It's difficult to be considered likable and trustworthy when
you talk down to people and assume you've got the right to instruct them about how live. Seems to me it would be more useful to shake hands, ask questions and consider the answers. Our "statesmen" seem to be going out of their way to snarl up the lines of communication.
