It is a sad state of affairs.

It still makes me sad. Shocking human behavior like that always does.

I'm afraid that I am feeling much as you describe.  As much as I love watching the events of the Olympics, I dread the thought of violence mixed in, or even the fear of violence.

This is such a sad situation. You said it all in the last sentence. When people will blow up themselves to kill others there is certainly nothing Holy about that.

I worry as well and I think it will take an act of God to stop the violence that has been planned.

That is the problem Naut if people are prepared to self destruct it will be a job to keep any true sense of security. There will have to be a good screening process one would imagine.

Nautikos

There are no words to cover the evil of that brand of terrorism, and the only thing we can do is nothing.

I am worried about the safety situation as well over there...Like you say, there is no defense for those types of people.

I love the Olympics Summer and Winter...and in 2000 in Sydney I had a wonderful time. I could not afford many tickets but did have some and it was an innocent party around Sydney all through the games. 9/11 hadn't happenend.

I remember '72 of course. It was the first Olympics televised for we Australians; and Mark Spitz was the swimming fish that won so many medals and Shane Gould was our golden girl in the pool too and then the unthinkable happened. Terrible tragedy and I too have real fears for the safety of these games.

I too clearly remember the '72 Munich Olympics, and you're right . . . in that year, it went from being a joyous occasion, with the world coming together for a series of sporting events, to one of international apprehension, wondering if such an episode would be repeated. But I must admit, even without Munich, my interest in the Olympics in general has faded over time, and now I really pay very little attention to them. However, I must agree with you that I can only hope that the Russian security teams do do their jobs and keep everyone safe. We'll just have to stay tuned . . .
