Re:

I suppose, lustor, that the blame has to stop somewhere. I understand your analogy, but the main difference is, cars weren't designed to kill people. AK-47's have only one purpose . . .

I guess we have a long list of people that invented anything that has killed people  What  about Ford is he guilty because so many people have been killed by cars

Re: Re: Re:

Of course you're right, Kabu. There seems to be another word missing from everbody's vocabulary - compromise. No matter who 'your people' are or what your beliefs are, there's got to be a middle or common ground somewhere. That's what makes for a good marriage, right? ( as you and I both know so well )

Re: Re:

John Lennon...What a waste his death was. Truly a poet a believer in Peace. Give Peace a chance...If only people would. Always you see the anger boiling over if someone doesn't agree with a certain way of thinking. My way or the high way...

Re:

So you think, TAPS, that there's a fair amount of blame to go around. I can't disagree. People keep coming up with new and better ways to destroy each other, and everyone ( well, almost everyone ) buys into it! Personally, I hate guns! Never had one, and probably never will, because they only have one purpose! And I'm not shooting anybody . . .

Re:

Unfortunately, Utah, that's all too true! Weapons like the AK-47 just made it somewhat easier. What's strange to think about though is that, someone invented the toaster to toast bread, but you can pick one up and kill someone with it if you had a mind to. However, weapons of any sort have only one purpose in mind! Most people don't need much motivation, or a complicated weapon like an AK-47. Sticks and stones will do too . . .

Re:

There's probably a good chance, Carolyn, that if this gentleman hadn't come up with such a weapon as the AK-47, eventually somebody else would have. Perhaps it's just as well that you were a lousy marksman. Could you really see yourself shooting someone else? I mean, other than in self-defense . . .

Re:

And that sentiment, Annicita, is probably worth a lot more than two cents! I know the term "can't we all just get along" may have been overused and now appears to be a bit lackluster, but as far as I'm concerned, it still rings true. What's the problem out there, people?

Re: JimmyA

Was that the process, Sir Wiley? Well, at least with a bullet, death can be quick and painless! I'm not so sure about a poison dart . . .

Re:

Needless to say, Kabu, I agree wholeheartedly. Not too long ago, I read that the longest the world has gone between any major wars or conflicts was about 100 years, and even that was probably a thousand years ago! John Lennon said it best when he asked everyone to "give peace a chance." I just don't know why it's so difficult . . .

Re: Jimmy

I have a feeling, Naut, that his name may be lost to history, but his invention lives on. However, knowing the general disposition of Man, even without that gun powder, we still would have found ways to destroy each other! Gun powder just made it a bit easier, and now the killings can be on a mass scale . . .

Re:

No argument here, C C T. I must admit that I myself am plagued with many regrets from twenty, thirty even forty years ago! But, as we all know, one cannot change the past! All we can do is move forward, and try to be better people . . .

Re:

You're probably right, FSI, although I have a feeling that some people may not look at it that way. We're all supposed to be responsible adults, but this was an instrument designed with only one purpose in mind! His regrets are understandable . . .

Very thought-provoking post.  Since we are all responsible, and accountable, for our thoughts, actions, choices, I'm afraid that everyone involved in any way has something for which they have to answer.

I cannot believe that the weapons killed anyone, those behind the weapons did the killing and they would have killed with or without them, history is the example of that, from the earliest army to the bomb and on. Take the guns away and we will use sticks and stones to kill with, but kill we will.

we used ak-47's in the army. i was a lousy marksman. the weapons are good for killing enemies in battle. may their creator rest in peace.

i just wish people would focus their creativity on things that are positive...that's my 2 cents worth!

When those natives used to blow poison darts or whatever through a long tube, I'm sure when they ran out of breath, they invented a gun is all.

people have always had weapons, even if it was a stone picked up and hit some one with.I have no idea who is to blame, noody, everybody, tis why I wish I was a pacifist. How wonderful it would be if people refused to kill another, would rather die than take a life. Now if everyone was like that, spread love and not hate, life would be so much better.

I think the guy who's really responsible is the one who invented gun powder, that Chinese fellow - I forget his name...

Well old age probably triggers regrets, I regret shooting a song thrush once, but I did not at the time. The conscience grows and grows if nothing else does.

It is interesting to read what he had last written about the weapon he had invented...As for who is at fault, the person pulling the trigger, the person giving the order or the inventor of the weapon, I feel that all three share equal blame.
