When Hillary becomes the country's first female President in 2008, I'll be having a party for about a week. Be traipsing up and down Fascist Avenue here in IB putting Hillary stickers on all the SUVs here-abouts.

Workin-girl, you may be a little to the right of me
but you have a point of view and a way of expressing yourself that I can understand and respect. If you can say you like Hillary, than you have alienated yourself from every right leaning male on the BN and in the world outside the BN.

Wonky, you and I have never been out of sync -
politically, even though you are younger than my own daughter.

Wiley, I was there too, I graduated from High School
in 1963 and Kennedy was shot when I was a freshman in college, but I remember Jackie, then and after. She was all everyone says she was. I agree with you.

Cynthia -
I love the fact that Hillary and the "other" Dr Dean are both brilliant women. That is definitely a plus. I have listened to Hillary with great respect and complete awe. When she opens her mouth to talk - people listen. (And, I'm sure you know I lean more to the right than the left... but, no matter.. I really like her.) She has always enabled me to see her viewpoint with no malice or emotion - it's truly a gift. Whereas, if I listen to someone like Paul Begala talk about the issues, I get emotional and upset. It would be so nice to have a brilliant first lady who is also a great communicator. Looks are important to us... you said yourself - that white hair, grandma look is upsetting. Beauty and trimness would be good. A Maria Shriver TYPE perhaps.... someone who may not talk too much about the issues (that's not HER job) but supports her man. (They're even from different parties.) She has her own career, etc. We definitely need a modern woman! Interesting Question.

Cynthia:
The First Lady...I love Hillary Clinton and she is on my list of Top Ten women I'd like to meet. I definitely respect her and look up to her as a "role model" on the political scene.
However, I feel like the First Lady position has, as you said, by and large been a cardboard cutout sort of role in the past. There were others who were strong women(Eleanor Roosevelt comes immediately to mind), but mostly - and unfortunately - they are nonentities. Props. Mrs. Bush, for example. What a fucking embarassment to the gender. She must be the most passive, mousy woman on the planet. Well, not really, but you get my point. What has she even done besides appear on the cover of Family Circle?!
I would love to see the other Dr. Dean step up, as Hillary has proven the position can be one of great respect, power, and influence. Although I must say I gained enormous respect for Dean after his statement about not dragging her around like a mute doll.
Great post!

Cynthia,
Wiley was here. Probably not my right to comment, but what the heck, I loved Jackie Kennedy.I think she was marvelous, extremely gracious , gorgeous, loving, regal and very intelligent.
