I'm hearing so much about Archie's pickled eggs, one of these days I'm going to try and make some...And your dandelion poem suddenly transported me back to my own childhood - thanks for the trip...

Re: Ciel
Hi Ciel, I don't go a lot on heights or I would have popped it on myself , well 40 years ago perhaps. Anyway it is horrible to hear a bird fluttering in the chimney and not being able to release the poor thing.

Re: I've seen those jars of pickled eggs sitting in the Owl & Thistle,
A good job you refrained Pat I don't think all that vinegar would have been good for you or whatever they were soaking in. We should try and go back and reveal our childhood memories, for fun of course.

Re: Jimmy
Well Archie is cunning Jimmy his first batch will be cheap and as soon as the punters are addicted up will go the price. No I have asked an insured roofer to fix the cowl, anyway the milkman and Archie both have stiff shoulders lifting more crates of milk than they should at one go, I expect.

Re: Justi
I was telling Kabu we used to put eggs in a kind of Glaze in the summer and use them in winter. As you know hens did not lay much in the winter in those days. I don't know if his eggs will qualify for pickled, people seem to like produce just soaked in vinigar.

Re: Kabu
Yes black eyed dandelions. Actually the eggs are OK. in white vinegar. I think you would probably like them. I prefer walnuts , but if you remember folk used to put eggs in a bucket of some mixture and use them through the winter.

Re: FS
Yes FS it seems a long time ago that the Thames froze so hard that a fair was held on there. Katie that rings a bell.

Re: Taps
Well Taps it might be because your eggs are too fresh. At the blunt egg of an egg there is a small air space something to do with the potential chick, as the egg ages the air space increases. So you see an older egg has the capacity to swell without putting so much pressure on the shell. I will ask Archie though if he uses any special tricks of the trade.

I have the awfulest time peeling boiled eggs. They end up in pieces.
No matter what I read on how to peel eggs, mine never turn out worth looking at.
Do Archie's pickled eggs look neat and pretty?

they have those jars of pickled eggs in the supermarket here. I have no intention of trying them.
Dandelion chains. We used to make them as children and wear them around our necks.
they are different in Australia. Less petals with a black center.

I don't blame you for wanting to keep 'the milkman' off your roof! The possible lawsuit would probably confuse any barrister! And I never thought of pickled hard-boiled eggs as being a businees worthy of contracts! When one signs on the dotted line, is there a special bonus, like the first half-dozen eggs are on the house . . . ?

I've seen those jars of pickled eggs sitting in the Owl & Thistle,
an Irish bar near the ferry dock in Seattle. The brine they float in seems almost as dark as stout, and I wouldn't try one unless I'm both very drunk and very hungry. I miss that bar and the folk music - used to drop in there with my grown kids from time to time. Love the dandelion poem, the aspects of childhood fantasy and practical grownups...
