Well, I don't know about the North & South magnetic fields, but when I'm inside, I'm more or less at the mercy of the position of my toilet. When I'm outdoors, the trees and bushs will dictate my position. Oh, and the wind too . . .

I asked Davy about this, and he just gave me his uncertain look
and blushed a little. I note that in the yard, he aligns southwest or southeast usually. With humans, of course, it has to do with how the facilities are oriented. I suggest you investigate how the outdoorsy sorts align their privvies. Of course, in the wilderness it probably will have more to do with prevailing breezes and superior views.
My position on this research is that it is a bit silly, beyond the interesting fact that many animals with quieter minds than ours are aware of the Earth's magnetism.
My father, by the way, began his career as a radio astronomer at a place in DC called The Department of Terrestrial Magnetism. No one seemed to know what that meant.

I think it might depend on a tree's position in your case Naut. I think I prefer North if there was a choice. South-East for computer setting. South-West for bed.

I don't think my toilet facility is lined up along the axis or opposite it.
But I do align my bed with the head to the north.

It is necessary that we park our cars pointing East/West. That is so interesting seriously. I Think it is awesome how man and animals are engineered.
