And as long as the human race remains 'splintered' because of religious differences, it really won't matter who is elected Pope! Progressive or not, he seems like a decent sort. Will that help in any way? Probably not . . .

I came. I read. I don't know what to say.
Never having been a part of the catholic church, I am not very pope oriented.
It does seem that he needs a little more learning on this subject.

You seem to favor Benedict, of course he was German but he did belong to the Nazi youth, so that bothered me.
"When Benedict XVI ascended to the papacy after the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005, world Jewish leaders were nervous about the new German-born pope." Me too.!!

I believe the reference to what the Christians have done to the Jews refers only to the Catholics who were also the only Christians in the Crusades. That was a land grab as well in cahoots with the King of England.

i typically don't trust anyone who is so popular. the masses usually have it wrong. after all jesus said they will kill you thinking they are doing a favor of God. don't see Time magazine stoning the new pope.

So far I am more pleased with the new Pope than not. Surely it is his role to try diplomacy first. To bring people together, to try Peace. I am sure in his heart he knows the task is like spitting into the wind. It will all come back and hit him in the face.
