Yes, I think an abject apology was/is due him.
How terrible is man's cruelity one to another.

such were the cruelties of those days...so sad...but (every pun intended in this) wasn't shoving up the arse what caused the whole problem in the first place....yikes! sorry it's not funny but couldn't resist
thankfully society has matured substantially

Great Post Naut. No broom comming your way tonight. You are quite in my good books with this Post. (besides at -27 it is too cold to poke my nose outside let alone into other people's business.)

I like what you said, and admire the way you said it.
Turing was just one of many who paid heavily for others' narrow minds and cruelty.

I would feel the same way, too, about such a pardon if I were him.

Our society tends to be sadly absolutist in its judgements
of right and wrong, good and evil. The judgement that homosexuality is evil is not shared by all societies, and some actually live in a 4-gender world, making a legitimate place for their homosexuals, male and female.
Those who hate and fear and punish people who make them uncomfortable are exercising a basic primate impulse, just as CC's chickens kill the different one without thought or real reason.
The genetics that create 'gayness' also seem very often to carry a gift of talent, intellect and artistry that have contributed much to human culture.

Re:
it was very Sad in a way Naut. It just makes one realize that basically we are not a lot different to other creatures. Throw a black hen into a flock of white ones and they will peck it to death. Basically though in this case it must have been the so called hierarchy who called the shots, I don't think the commoners as they have been known to be called would have given a toss, or the gallant women who worked endlessly on the project.
