Your christmas delving into the bag of goodies and fighting over the packages was pricelessly written. A most enjoyable read.

Re: Re: Ciel

...or get what we deserve, for which we should sometimes be truly grateful.

Philosophically speaking, though, I doubt that we each really know what we deserve. We do more good in the world, and perhaps less evil, than we realize.

Re: Ciel

No Ciel the only thing is one finds that after being apprehensive about a trying little ordeal, there does not seem to be the flow of relief after it is over. Sometimes I look at

a certain object and think when this is over I can experience the aura , but it never happens.Yes I guess not many of us deserve what we get.

Re: Pat

I think you can handle most things Pat. With decorum these days.

I can relate to those Christmas time feelings as well...After I moved into my house in July 2010, I found that I did not feel that sadness anymore. I guess breaking up the routine caused me to look at things differently.

I don't believe I've ever experienced that same type of emptiness or sadness when Christmas was over, especially as I've gotten older. The anticipation was always exciting, and the day itself was always wonderful. And I knew there was always next year. I think my family was probably too big to have a 'grab bag' kind of gift distribution! And with two sisters, who knows what my brothers and I may have ended up with . . .

It's the after-party blahs. I usually avoid them by dreading whatever's

on the schedule, anticipating the worst of all times. Then, when it turns out to be not so bad after all, maybe even enjoyable, I can think back on it and be content.

I can understand that kind of sadness.

I think it comes from the tremendous build up and promise that isn't quite met by reality, and when it is all done and over for the season, there is the let-down from that, as well as a kind of withdrawal. The older I get, it seems I am less prone to letting my expectations build up that way, of the day, of myself, of other people. I no longer have that need for a perfection that is pretty much unattainable anyhow.

A few years ago, I used the final illustration from "King John's Christmas" with the words:  Have a Happy Christmas whether you deserve it or not.
