Re: Re: Re:
Wow, Kabu! It's seems that a nerve has been genuinely touched! That's okay. You rant on all you'd like!
Something similar happened in my old home town when it came to storefronts. About 25 years ago, it seemed the township couldn't bear to let a simple open patch of land or a small group of trees stand by themselves, so they had to been torn down, torn up, paved over, and strip malls put in place. However, the rents were so high that no one were occupying the stores for months and months and months. But, they kept building! Before you knew it, there were dozens of these unsightly, empty stores all over the place, with signs hanging in the windows FOR RENT or AVAILABLE. It took years to fill them all! What was the point of all those stores?

and all those empty houses that are just falling to bits because they were repossessed and left empty by the banks.
now the same thing happened in Ireland and the repossessed were taken over by the Gov. or the banks and the expensive fittings were removed and cheapo's installed and the houses were rented and sold whichever came first and it is much better to have people living in these places and getting some money in than having them just fall down...I do go on...sorry.

Re:
That's a tough moral dilemma, lustor, but I understand where your heart is at. We don't want to promote or advocate thievery, but sometimes people are forced to do what they have to do! When someone is cold and needs warmth, it would be difficult for anyone to deny them something to keep them warm . . .

they tell us at sears if we see someone come into the store without a jacket and walk out with one on to call the LP but I think I would just turn an eye to it

Re:
Indeed it wouldn't, C C T. But then again, there seems to be a lack of concern towards our fellow Man that has culminated into scenarios like this one. If he had been someone relatively famous, the public outcry would have been immense, and then someone would have done something to alter the circumstances! It's always 'after the fact' that people are willing to do anything . . .

I suppose, TAPS. Perhaps if more people did what they could to help those less fortunate, that man would not have had any need to climb into that donation box. I wonder how the people who actually knew him felt once they read that article . . .

Re: JimmyA
I suppose, Sir Wiley, that that's one way to interpret the scenario. Yeah, if his hat had flown off and landed in that box, and he was simply trying to retrieve it, sure, it could be viewed as a 'misadventure.' However, I think everything changes once Death is introduced into the picture . . .

Re:
Sorry to cause you any angst, Kabu, but it's nice to know you feel passionately about this particular situation. I've always felt that, with the United States supposedly being one of the ( if not the ) wealthiest countries on the planet, that there could still be a problem with homelessness. Then I read about certain people buying mansions worth literally millions! Why? Seems rather inhumane sometimes, doesn't it?

Re:
That's all too true, lovelylady. It did seem a rather callous and insensitive way of describing that poor man's final moments, as if he was just an old tin can someone had carelessly discarded. What's this world coming to . . . ?

Re:
Glad you agree, FSI, although I wasn't really expecting to read too many people who wouldn't find that a rather vulgar and distasteful way of describing someone's death! There has to be a better way of designating that . . .

Re:
Simplify, simplify, right, Utah? That reminds me of a scene in a comedy movie where the villain confronts the hero and exclaims "And now I will kill you until you die from it!" Can't be any more direct than that . . .

Re: Jimmy
You're probably right, Naut, but I still think they could have come up with a better designation. Regardless of who this man actually was, he still could have had just a smidgeon of dignity at the time of his passing, other than calling it a 'misadventure' . . .

I suppose lack of care by the community would not sound very professional.

I guess it's an easy way to shift blame and feel no guilt for not being more benevolent.

Maybe he was 'stoned' or 'intoxicated' that was his adventure, so yeah he had a misadventure.

Like that one about the boy who killed 4 people being a victim of Affluence.....It is society that is in trouble; making ridiculous statements instead of dealing with the real problem. I agree with you this man died because there was no where to go. None of us like to pay more taxes but surely with some rearrangement of priorities.... Good post because you have got me all worked up....

That poor man! He obviously needed help, and didn't get it. What a terrible way to refer to his death. Some people just have no sense at all.

I do not consider that way to be death by misadventure either and feel that it should be a term that should be changed as well.

Yes, I agree! But this is the age in which the use of euphemisms has reached unprecedented levels - this is just another example...
