I think 'practice' makes a writer also--plus learning to follow your own voice.

I think that's because the more you write, the more feedback you get.
Some of it is superior to your own work, and some of it, you are led to criticize. When you encourage the good and criticize the bad, you learn and grow. This takes a lot of time.
But when I took my first serious art class as a child, I put out a very good duck first thing, fit to frame in my home now. Sometimes, what we have is a gift in the first place. That's beginner's luck. To be able to put out good work time after time takes a little more effort.
