Re:
That's very true, Against. But I suppose "victim" is a relative term. Since he was never actually "charged" with anything, I guess they couldn't refer to him as a suspect. I didn't hear or read if anyone he had been shooting at were either killed or injured. I'm sure if any were, it would have been reported. I know . . . it's difficult sometimes to feel sorry for someone who indiscriminately hurts or kills someone else . . .

Re: Re: Re:
You weren't being a witch, Kabu. Every once in a while I too feel compelled to 'correct' someone who may have made an error they may or may not have even been aware of! And yes, there seems to be very few 'sanctuaries' left out there for anyone! Like you said, they'll find you eventually . . .

It is my opinion that the term "victim" is mis-applied to the victim. Sure, it is too bad he was shot to death, but there was no compunction of guilt on his part toward the people he was targeting with his gun.

Re: Re:
Yes well i just had to be a witch and point it out to you...LOL...Even if one lived on a little Island by themselves someone would come along now-a-days and tell you it belonged to some Nation or other and you had to leave or be removed forcefully.

Re:
I would think, TAPS, that the odds would probably be against it, although, from what I understand, Iceland doesn't really have a very large popluace. This particular individual was probably before my time here in Blog-it, so I don't remember him. And I have a feeling that was a good call to bypass Iceland for Paris, at least as far as the climate was concerned . . .

Re: JimmyA
Indeed they are, Bill, and I'm sure they're even colder in Iceland.
However, it would appear that gun violence knows no nationality . . .

We used to have a Blogit writer from Iceland. Seems like his name was Thor something. He had been recuperating from an accident on the ice from which he had bad injuries. He was writing a book about his injuries and at one time (2004 I think) he was trying to talk me into flying to Reykjavik to visit him. LOL. So, I flew over Iceland and went to Paris, which is warmer.
p.s. There was no mention of guns or crime. I hope that was not him involved in that incident.

Re:
News, yes, C C T, and sad news at that! I know sometimes stats and other numbers can be deceiving at times, and not everything gets reported on! But I have read about and heard of Iceland's seemingly peaceful existence for a long time now, so this was a bit of a shocker! A sad state of affairs in our world right now . . .

Re: JimmyA
I don't recall actually hearing about that, Sir Wiley, but . . . nothing would surprise me anymore! I was just trying to make an analogy in the extreme! It's hard to come up with these anymore, given the absurdities of our society today . . .

Re:
You're right, Kabu, on both counts. Almost immediately after I posted this, it hit me that polar bears are in the Arctic, and not the Antarctic. But the analogy is still sound! And it appears to be truer every day . . . there seems to be no place left on this planet where one can claim to be completely safe from any form of gun violence! I wonder how the Pygmies in Central Africa are getting along . . . ?

Re: Jimmy
I suppose, Naut, that's one way to look at it. One death in 200 years is a pretty good statistic, by comparison if nothing else. But the fact remains that apparently, no place is immune from gun violence anymore! Yeah, I do prefer the cold to the heat, but constant ice? I think I'll pass too . . .

Tis sadness indeed, lovelylady. Where will the next one come from? Unfortunately, we know they'll be a next one . . .

Re:
Neither do I, FSI. One tries not to be pessimistic, but when that reality comes 'crashing in,' you just have to step back, look at the 'big picture,' and think "This is a ridiculous world we live in!" It's a shame indeed . . .

Re:
You would think so, lustor, but I was just trying to make a point. It seems like, every time you turn around, you hear or read about gun violence somewhere, and the places seem to be getting more and more obscure! Where will it end . . . ?

I suppose they might have kept quiet about it 150 years ago if a seal spear had knocked off a rival. news indeed though Jimmy

Well, this is where stats give us consolation! No, actually more than that - cause for celebration! One (1) killing in 200 years? They certainly beat the odds, compared to most of the rest of the world! I'd still go to Iceland any day, if it wasn't for the fact that it's not called Iceland for nothing...
