I, too, prefer the overtime system to be what it is today.
Back in the day, the NFL did not have overtime. If the score was tied in regulation, the game ended in a tie. Ties used to be very frequent. For example, 1973, the last year the old rules were in effect, had 7 ties. That's more in one season than this century (4).

They may be unpopular, but more importantly, they are extremely rare! I too think the OT rules are fine the way they currently are. It gives both teams a fair chance. The only thing that may make a difference is when it becomes playoff time. Depending on the seeding, those ties could come back and haunt a team . . .
