It seemed worse to you than what it was Jay. A quick smack on the head, much better than waking in pain, but of course to you as a lad it seemed inhuman I had to do that to my goose which I had for 15 years. I did not like doing it, but thought it was better than the trauma of taking it to the vet as it would have been upset. I would today take a cat or a dog to the vet and just as we call it put them to sleep if they were very ill, for the animals sake.
