One thing that makes for a favorite breakfast is the setting.
A million years ago we crossed the White Pass very early in the morning, headed from eastern Washington's desert country to our new home in the foothills of the western Cascades - practically rain forest. We stopped at a place called the Copper Canyon cafe, where the table tops were crosscut slabs off a giant tree, five feet across. They served hashbrowns with onions, scrambled eggs and bacon, buttered toast and freshly squeezed orange juice. There was a smouldering fire in the stone fireplace, deer antlers mounted on the walls. To this day my favorite breakfast is scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and a slice or two of crisp bacon.

i have never been a breakfast person...when I was working and smoking it was a black coffee and a cigarette!!! but now it is black coffee and when that is drunk I make a plate of cereal fresh fruit and 1% milk for us both. I think my best Breakfast was in Singapore...the Buffet at the Shanghriala Hotel years ago now.

Re: FormerStudentIntern.
My son makes great French toast. His special trick is to toast the bread first, before dipping it in the batter, and frying it.

Re: TAPS,
All that sounds wonderful! I haven't had much Spanish food. I do have a Basque cookbook somewhere, that uses lard or bacon fat as a major staple ingredient.

What's your favorite breakfast?
I am a French toast kind of guy.
What's the most unusual breakfast you've eaten?
What's the best breakfast you've ever eaten?
What makes breakfast, breakfast?

I loved the breakfasts in the mountain village of Northern Spain when I spent a week there. They make me want to go back: baguette tostadas drizzled with olive oil, chopped tomato, slices of Spanish chorizo and aged manchego, green olives, fresh orange juice, Spanish coffee, churros and dipping chocolate, and Rioja.
