Loved this...  Very nicely written.  I always have found it worth it , when I am in the mood for decluttering, to ask someone who knows about antiques to come and take a look at the stuff I am panning to get rid of or clean up before I do anything else.  Most times they do not charge anything for coming and if they find even one item worth saving it pays back tremendously.  You will be surprised .  One time I had an old book.  It was in good condition but since it was a medical text it was not anything anyone would pick up for reference now a days in the age of computers... I threw it in the pile to donate to the library without thinking about it twice... Later on that month the library called me to thank me.  The book turned out to be a rare anatomy text even older than Grey's... worth a lot.  To be honest I had no idea so there you go... My advise... always ask first  loll...

Books unread, my unmade bed, and words blocked up inside

till I read your poem. Now I'm home, there's kindred on the other side.

I guess you are Carolyn . If you had been a bit younger you would have made a good Astronaut.

Re: jimmy

I have an old metal horse one was on E bay for 90 pounds, most of the stuff I am throwing out is copper it looks pretty grim un-shone.  We used to throw old oil lamps away. Hang on to your old computer, I can't wait that long.

Is Arthur a former Sgt. Major? He seems to be on the bossy side...And I too have had my trouble with a variety of dolls, lol...The poem ended in your usual, inimitable fashion -with a bang...

An especially pretty posy today!

If you donate those dolls somewhere, they will be just in time to create better memories for someone else's Christmas.

As anyone else may warn you, it's always good to be careful when it comes to anything that may considered an antique or a "collectable." Cleaning it or altering it in any way could affect its value, if you ever decided to go that way with it. The same may apply to those books. But if it's just a matter of cleaning up the clutter, and you're not overly concerned with the final condition of any of these things, well then, do what you must! Hey, ya never know . . .
