trouble, i empathize with you on having a job you do not like. i have worked many. now uncle sam and my total disability afford me the ability to stay at home all day and write. maybe you could convince your brain to go whackjob like mine and then get a judge to label you gravely disabled so you could get disability and so you wouldn't have to put up with these dweebs. nevertheless, it will get better. God will provide for you especially as you seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. God bless, pear

Yes CYA behavior is all over the place. I get that other people are trying to do their job too, but its just unnatural to talk to people that way

I agree. What really gets to me is that my team does some pretty amazing things when it comes down to it. But we all need recongnition and the feeling that someone is on our side. It really peeves me when 'higher ups' use those needs as leverage to get us to do more.
Thanks for stopping by

He's not all bad
But it is difficult to have a real conversation with someone who seems to have a different agenda behind the things he sais. It seems that somewhere in the bubble, there is a guideline that states employees should only work at the store for a certain amount of time, and after that they should be 'encouraged' to move on.

My previous response was to your comment - my wonderful new apple OS decided it wanted to fill in the subject field with something I typed in a long time ago. I apologize if that was confusing for everyone. Another example of Apple thinking they know what is best for you.
Anyway, thank you for your comment. And I appreciate someone else recognizing how that type of behavior from a manager can be annoying to say the least.
Be well

I believe that all he was doing was basically covering his own butt with his superiors. If people are unhappy and/or leave, he'll still be able to say to his bosses "Hey, at least I tried!" I've been in that same situation at the last two places I worked ( both graphic arts houses ). Certain managers will act like they're concerned and on your side, but in reality, they just want to please their higher-ups for what they say is for the good of the entire company. It may be time to move on . . .

All that comes under the headings of 'Showing interest in the employees' and 'Building Morale' and such. The problem is that such efforts are often transparently 'artificial'; they are 'special events' precisely because the usual work atmosphere lacks those elements...
