Re: Jimmy...I think the phones are often smarter than the users....
I can't disagree, Rumor. My wallet is certainly very important to me, and has its functions. But I don't walk around all day with it in my hand, exposed for all the world to see, and possibly steal! I take it out when I need it. Why these people can't do the same with those phones is beyond me! That's why I have very little sympathy for those who have them stolen right from their hands. Put the damned things away until you actually need them! Is that such a difficult concept . . . ?

Re:
Good for you, TAPS. I don't have one either. I have seen other people's in action, and although they can be practical at certain moments, they certainly aren't worth all that money, or that aggrivation! Technology certainly is out of control . . .

Re: I don't know why
That's true, WhiteHat. Most dogs wait for someone to open a door for them. But when they figure it out and do it themselves, we often say "Look how smart he is!" Well, like you said, those phones don't do a damned thing until a "smart" human starts it up! However, that's where the similarity ends. Once that dog is outside, he usually doesn't have to worry about another dog running up on him to steal his bone . . .

I don't know why
we use the word smart to dexcribe a device that basically does nothing until we tell it to.

Re:
That's true, lustor. Besides being vulnerable to thieves, the whole concept of "distracted drivers" creates a danger for us all! Why oh why do certain people feel the need to abuse these things? What a society . . .

Re:
Sounds like a good call, Kabu. And yes, that's another topic I could probably fill an entire blog with! I saw the images on the evening news of people camped out in front of stores in the middle of the night, waiting to get the latest gimmick someone produced! And then, in less than a year in some cases, they're out there again to get the next version of the same item! Some of these smart phones are on their 6th or 7th versions already! What was so wrong with the last one, or the one before that, or the one before that? The new one is 20 seconds faster! Oh, boy, there's a big deal! My phone is ten years old and works just fine for me, thank you very much! Oh what a world we live in . . .

Re:
I'm actually not sure what a "400 phone" is, Annicita, but regardless, it sucks to have anything personal stolen from you! At least you were at work, which may narrow down the possible suspects! If you were on the street, that phone is as good as gone! So, did anything come of it?

Re:
I can see that, adnohr. Believe me, there have been occasions when I'm with someone with a smart phone, and a questionable topic comes up in conversation that we would love to know the background or answer to. Yes, it's wonderful to have all that information at your fingertips. But those incidences are few and far between! As for me, I just want a phone! And I can always get the hockey scores later . . .

Re:
Thanks, Justi. Yes, I am like you. The only time I am ever on the phone for any substantial length of time is when I call my mom in Texas. Otherwise, I see no real need to be on the phone with anyone and everyone about anything, as some people are! I just like to have a simple phone with me in case of emergencies. And I don't think my phone would have any resale value at this point in time, which is fine by me . . .

Re:
It's just common sense, MsJudy. And I didn't realize how valuable the phones were when turning them in! But, as I've said before, I really don't need all of the bells and whistles some of these phones come with! When I'm in an emergency, all I need is a phone . . . period!

Re:
That's very true, C C T. I know many a bloke who seems to be going broke trying to keep up with all of this modern technology! Where will it end? Like you, my phone is certainly not worth stealing, not even for parts! But even if I did own the latest-and-greatest cell or smart phone, I still would not walk around all day with it in my hands! Some people just ask for trouble . . .

Re:
Believe it or not, FSI, my phone may be even older than yours! I'm not one to constantly up-grade any of my pieces of technology simply to up-grade it! If it still works, why change? And my cell phone is just that . . . a phone! It can't take pictures, it can't tell me the current temperature of my refrigerator, and it can't shoot laser beams at passing star ships! It's just a phone for emergencies! Some people are just not satisfied with that . . .

Re:
I understand completely, Utah. Absolutely nothing personal against your wife, but for every guy I see either talking or texting on a cell phone, I see at least 50 women! I too have yet to make a single text! If you've got the damned phone in your hand already, why not just call the other person? It is a phone after all, isn't it?

Re: Jimmy
I hear that, Naut! I suppose logic would tell you to treat your phone like your wallet. No matter where you are or what you're doing, assume some suspicious character is lurking nearby, ready to pounce! And you're right . . . stupidity is not the fault of the phone itself. It's a shame that mankind's general intelligence is not progressing as rapidly as our technology seems to be . . .

LOL - too much of a good thing, it is for some folks. I have one, but it's in my purse when I'm out and about, unless I'm waiting on an important call. It's great to text play by plays during hocey games.

I don't think mine is that smart. It would not bring them $200. I find it very dependant of anyone who has to be on a phone all the time. I don't have that much to talk about and certainly don't know enough people to tell them everything I know anyway. Good post.

The smartphones are worth alot of money now if you turn them in when you get a new one. Like 150.00 ea. So yeah that is why you need to guard your smartphones.

Well I don't think my puny little phone is worth stealing Jimmy, I only carry it in case I breakdown in my old not worth stealing car. Folk complain about being hard up, but there always seems a reason to own the next plaything.

Well, stupidity is not the vexing little device's fault! I have one of those, and it's in my pocket except when I'm talking on it (I never text), which is not all that often. And not only is it in a pocket least accessible to anyone, not only would a perp have to get through my defences, first he'd have to get past Bennie, LOL...
