But I was a Marine, and at that time the Marines were not taking draftees, only volunteers, so I was one of those who chose to fight like my brothers and my father before me.

I don't believe in war...the only purpose I feel it serves is to stroke the egos of those in power and costs the lives of many a man and now woman...I am ashamed at the way those who didn't agree chose to spit on those who did fight...it wasn't always a choice but rather a series of numbers "randomly" drawn at the draft board that made that decision for these young men

A powerful poem! I understand your pain, and also your anger at those who have vilified the sacrifices you and your comrades have made. Even if one rejected the war out of a genuine conviction that it was a wrong one, that was no excuse for spitting on the soldiers...
But things are getting really bad! I don't know if you've read today's post in 'Views'...

This was so awesome. So poignant to the heart of matters then and now. Not to pay benefits to the military now is a true shame this rotten government will live to regret.
