When we come to realize that the name came to honor their first coach, who was an American Indian, then it is a whole new ball game...I'm sure it dosen't bother any of my relatives, any of my proud ancestors, or their tribes.

I have to check out Sowell's book. It sounds very interesting.
I remember when the Washington Bullets of the NBA changed their name to the Washington Wizards. Personally, I thought it was ridiculous because 99% of the population knew that bullet was meant to be quick, not violent, and the team occasionally breaks out their old Bullets uniforms.

Bones United
This is what a group of Orthopaedic Surgeons once called their soccer team at a tournament for medics at a conference. I remember another team back home called Zoo Movement. With such a wide range of imaginative and exotic names to choose from, it does sound mischievous to resort to names like Washington Redskins. On the other hand, what about Atlanta Chiefs? Kaizer Motaung played for them for a couple of seasons and when he retuned home formed his own team called Kaizer Chiefs, one of the most succesfull teams in the country today. Is this veneration or denigration of American Indians?
