Re:
Something tells me, Justi, that we're not! I have the strangest feeling that those banana cakes are extremely popular, and that, on occasion, we've been fortunate to have been able to "snag" the last and only one! But that's okay. Like I wrote, they're a rare treat, and we enjoy them when we can get them. I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well . . .

Re:
Somehow, C C T, I just don't think those sponges will have the same texture or flavor as cake, but, people have some pretty strange quirks I suppose. And actually, cream donuts and a few slices of cold turkey sounds like a pretty good meal! I would hate to see you feel the need to give up on that combo . . .

I think I understand, Annicita! I guess these all fall under the category of "weakness." But from what I've read, dark chocolate is supposed to be very good for you. It contains the same enzyme found in red wine, which, in moderation of course, can have certain health benefits as well. I don't think I've ever seen those chocolate crunch donuts, but I'll look for them now . . .

I find that very interesting. You know it is the rare, one of a kind or some other thing that makes something out of sight in desire or cost. Enjoy it and wonder if you are the only couple eating these. Have a good weekend.

Jimmy could you not have an ordinary sponge and stick a banana or two in the middle. It seems strange that only one cake of that tempting variety sits waiting just for you. I have had this fixation with cream dough-nuts, believe me, I don't want to go cold turkey on that experience again .

True, Utah. And of course, some are worse than others. But I don't think that a piece of banana cake was found in Pandora's Box, so I still feel safe . . .

Re: Apple Crisp
You made me salivate with that one, WhiteHat. I haven't had apple crisp in a long time! That would be a rare treat indeed! I'm sure your mom's was delicious. If there are any leftovers, send me a slice . . .

I hear that, TAPS! I love pumpkin pie too! It is occasionally available at other times of the year, but it is a lot more special at this time of year! I can wait a few more weeks . . .

See, Kabu? Banana bread! Banana cake! There's something about that taste and flavor, isn't there? Have you ever had banana pancakes? Mmmm, mmmm good! That's a treat that's best reserved for the rare occasion! They're delicious as well, but a good batch can put you right to sleep afterward . . .

It would seem, lovelylady, that your "discipline," as well as your "tempatations," are about to be tested to the limits! I suppose it's safe to say that Jim's intentions are bitter-sweet . . . no pun intended! It's okay to "give in" every once in a while, but be careful! Too much of a good thing can have its consequences . . .

I understand completely, FSI. My wife and I are BIG Oreo fans as well, and also try to "sample" the various flavored creams . . . when they're available! There's an obscure one out right now called Banana Split! Check it out, if you dare . . .

They may, lustor, but then the temptation gets tested each and every week! For now, it's easier on our wasteline if we're only tempted, say, once a month . . . !

Re: Jimmy
I'll take your word for it, Naut. I'm sure there are dozens of different desserts and "special treats" that I've probably never even heard of, but that's okay! It's all good! And there may be something to your theory about Entenmann's efforts ( or lack thereof ) in keeping the banana cake fanatics happy. An actual shortage of bananas perhpas? Unlikely, but possible . . .

LOL Jimmy! You hit the nail straight on top of the head with this one! I am a chocoholic, BIG TIME! I'm slowly getting better about the over indulgence thing, but...
An English friend of mine got me totally addicted to areo bars when I was visitng England many years ago! I'm still addicted to them, though I've not had one for ages now...even though they're now available here in the US. I'm also mad on black current syrup, which we can also get here now, though it's very expensive, even at amazon.
And blast big brother Jim! He's about to get me seriously addicted to fine Scottish chocolates! (Yes, there is a HUGE difference between English and Scottish chocolates, according to Jim!) I'm to expect a parcel full of goodies from Scotland sometime before Christmas.
Sigh. I fear I'm doomed!...

Depending on the time of year, Oreos will have the double stuff cream in a different color (i.e. Halloween is orange, spring is yellow, winter is red). For some reason, they taste better than the regular white double stuff cream. The grocery stores in the area only carry it for a few weeks or so. When one of those Oreos types are there, I cannot pass them up.

Jimmy
There's probably an easy explanation for the scarcity of Entenmann's banana cake - It's probably a passion shared by so many that poor old Entenmann can't keep up wit the demand...When it comes to desserts, I have two passions, wait - come to think of it, it's three: strawberries with a sprinkling of Cointreau and whipped cream, tarte Tatin and crepes Suzette. For the last two you will have to consult the recipes on Food Network, LOL...
