Re: Re:
probably not and probably it was a very sick marriage. My Niece who is an alcoholic was living with a guy once who was an enabler..he would encourage her to drink and then after a bender he would enjoy picking her up and sobering her up and helping her ...

As you've said, there are probably some missing pieces to the puzzle that you're just not aware of. Who knows what really goes on in the personal lives of certain people. Alcohol abuse is not pretty for anyone to have to deal with, or witness in a loved one. It's hard to imagine that her husband was unaware of her problem. Or perhaps he was, but just didn't care. It all might make more sense if you had just a little more information of their overall situation . . .

I cannot know what it is to crave alcohol but I smoked cigarettes for about 20 years and it was a terrible addiction to kick. Thank God it is over now but it was so difficult to stop.

Re: lustorlove
I'm thinking that a non-drinker will never truely understand, and a non-smoker will never truely understand why a smoker can't quit, or why a gambler gets so far in debt, or why an overeater can't control himself. We are imperfect human beings.

lustorlove, i have almost 30 years sobriety in aa and i think a drunk is a drunk and to see one in his or her cups is a sorry sight indeed. it's unfortunate that woman passed away at what the aa big book calls alcohol as a rapacious creditor... drinking is a disease but it is also a choice... one can put the plug in the jug or keep drinking into the gates of insanity or death... hope this finds you well... swordfingers/pricklypear
