My cat does that, when she thinks I am about to stop petting her.
Another of the cats, still back in Olympia, hangs around on the tall cat tree, and swipes at you going by.
Cats reach out, but it seems to be always about them wanting something.
Dogs are much more sincere!

If I were a doggy psychiatrist I would probably say that Ben was showing that he trusts you completely. I don't think a cat would show quite the same gesture.

don't ya just melt!!! i think he missed you so much when you were away and he realized just how much he loves you...Oh yes, animals are capable of far more than was ever given credit for...The more we spend time with them, and give them a safe loving home with heaps of attention, their intelligence is given a chance to develop properly and they work hard at reciprocal communication.

That is so sweet..and so gratifying when our pet does such a thing. Contrary to what my post did to you, yours just made my heart soar!

I understand completely. Several of our cats are "rescues," and they couldn't be more appreciative of or more affectionate toward my wife and me. And some people still think animals don't have feelings . . .
