Bizarre indeed! And I noticed from everyone's comments that no one seemed to understand your reference to the movie "Them!" Or perhaps they did, but failed to see the connection. I got it . . .

àNow the stink bugs are coming. That’s the new epidemic for those who like the bedbug one. They come through openings in the foundation and house. Mrs. Sun will be bringing in her plants on the sunroom staircase. More on this love. BC-A, Bill’s R®ST

I have no idea what that is, but like you said it does look like a leaf so maybe its a leaf bug.

A katydid... Well, I'd never have known that if not for your comments
section. It's like the old joke about what's worse than finding a worm in the apple, and the punch line is "half a worm." Insects outside are nature, and unless they sting or bite, they're interesting - but indoors, wrapped in the coverlet? Ewww, yuck.

I don't think it is a lot to worry about Taps. I don't like spraying insecticides all over.
Remember when folk did it with DDT and eventually it was found in the wildlife in the Arctic. Our Bill over on Fiction always seems to be spraying bug killer around.

Well at least its gone
I hope the rest of your fall is insect free :). My roomate once took our garbage can outside while he was cooking on the grill. Then he just brought it right back in. We had bugs for days. Next time I might put him in the garbage can :).

It's a katydid - I have heard they are only in USA but have seen them here. They only bite (painful, apparently) if aggravated, but will usually fly or crawl away. Very pretty, but I wouldn't want to share my bed with one either.

I've seen those 'things' before, but only in pictures! I think it's fascinating that you should find one in your place! Some kind of mantis, I think, though no the prayin' kind, LOL...And Son #1 going out on the deck to enjoy the 'fresh air' while smoking a ciggie strikes me as an attempt at enacting an oxymoron...
