I have noticed that as well with the film adaptations.

I have yet to see a movie made from a classic novel in which Hollywood did not take certain liberties and change the story, add unnecessary characters, altar plot-lines, and basically deviate far enough from the original story that it barely resembles it. Why oh why do they do that . . . ?
