The birds were, in fact, assaulting my neighbor during their nesting season. They'd taken the penthouse nest just above her door.

I refuse to acknowledge dullness and drear... at least, not until February when winter has overstayed its welcome, and I am good and tired of it. If nothing else, the image of your house strewn with your washing drying shaped like radiators, will keep me amused.

Those blackbirds will likely return, with 1000 of their friends. That'll cheer you up!

Oh yes... fall and winter soups... golden with pumpkin or butternut squash, and corn and taters and mushrooms of various kinds... maybe a bit of maple syrup and spices...

I was going to ask the same question as Jimmy. Birds usually do that kind of thing when they have young, but it's late in the season for young, isn't it?. No secret about my loving the fall and winter.

Oh Ciel please do not keep praising the dull forthcoming months. Oh sorry forgot my promise. Yes lovely nice to lie in bed until it gets light and turn the heating up and roast chestnuts. One thing I can dry my washing inside on the radiators in winter. I am waiting to see if the same blackbirds return they had stripey necks it may have been because they were fed on cat pellets.
