There was one on the Next Generation, Star Trek.  She was a Counsellor on the Enterprise.  You could probably find internet information with Bing or Google.  The upbringing may play into it also like you mentioned.

i consider myself more upbeat now...but if i am not careful i am affected easily...i prefer being at home or in small groups

I believe we get many of those so called emotions early in childhood A. Now I thought you were quite the opposite to this, so it just shows how one can be misled by ones own conception of someone. I had something terrible happen to me when I was 2 years old and I still carry that black patch.

You might find books on introverts of interest too - there is a lot of cross over as very empathic people tend to find others exhausting and so become quite introverted.
