I like the smell of cow manure too, CCT, but that of pigs and chickens is harder to take. I hope it didn't smell all day? It would play havoc with one's appetite come lunchtime. Uncle Albert was very wise to stay away from unwashed ladies. His tale does open eyes to the hunger some children have to endure. Amusing poem, and I love a nice beard. It gives a distinguished look...

Re: Re: Down the road from the Olympia house
That was the case with the silage and the school. Maybe that's how they got the land cheap, for the school.

Yes poor old pigs Taps they need a bit of bedding, sometimes out of boredom they bite the tails off. I am afraid animals are exploited, but no one wants to pay for expensive food,

Re: Down the road from the Olympia house
Yes Ciel that Silage is so sickly they put treacle in with it, it used to be worse than the manure. I don't think they do it here much now. Fancy allowing anything like that next to a school. I had a poultry farm once, but it was gradually built round and I did get one or two suggestions, but I was there first.

I got as far down as "brown stuff running down from his nose" and that was enough for me. My husband's uncle had a pig farm. He raised pigs on cement. He said that their feet never touched the ground and they never laid in mud. He made good money at it, but it seemed mean to me--mean to the pigs. And you know what, they smelled really bad anyway. We didn't go there very often if we didn't have to.

Down the road from the Olympia house
was an organic farm... other farms, too, so twice a year or so, we'd get the fertilizer wafting on the breeze. Worse, was the silage place next door to where they built the new high school. That place was unbearable on many occasions! Charlie put up with it for 4 years, though.

Tickle her fancy indeed ..yes Uncle Albert if you want a bit of ahem...a close shave is for the best.
Re the odoriferous perfume wafting on the wind...sounds like a piggery to me but a sewage pipe may have burst somewhere close. 5 miles seems a long way to catch such a smell.
Love the flower and U A has such memories to share.

Re: C.C.
Once no one would use poultry manure Justi as it is quite strong, but it is a good fertilizer
although it is dried and packaged here and sold as pellets. Yes Uncle Albert is a bit naughty, but he means well.

Re: This entire post was man stuff... The course, hard life
Yes fashions change Pat once the unthinkable becomes a fashion object, well so I have heard. Yes it was hard on the road, and there were even more wretched people called by the gypsies Hedge Pokers, because they lived in the hedge most of the time. Mind hedges were probably thicker in those days.

Now I quite like the cow poo smell Naut, the best smell of any poo, I think. I don't like looking too closely at cows though they keep putting their tongues up their nose. Well ladies may not agree Naut, UA is rather upfront.

I guess I can't blame you for holding off on those apples. Besides, is "pig's muck" exactly what I think it is . . . ?

I don't know about the piggy stuff, but when I'm driving in the country and get a whiff of cow, I like it - it brings back memories...Uncle Arthur's tale is perfectly Dickensian, LOL, and the poem is delightful...

It sounds like your sister is very lucky there...It was interesting reading Uncle Albert talk about his reasoning for refusing the companionship and how self-preservation fits into it...Reading about the beard made me think about my dad.

This entire post was man stuff... The course, hard life
the "fresh country air" and the potential shave. Although shaving the potential is a tricky business at best. Loved the flower photo. :)

Oh I am going to go backward, the flower is so beautiful. I liked the razor, but I simply laughed and laughed at Uncle Albert and almost cried too. Ooooh I hate the animal residue. We don't have hog stuff but chicken is put on farmer's fields all over the place and it smells to high heaven in the countryside.

Have a great day.
