Reading this reminds me of an interesting article Thomas Schaller wrote inThe Baltimore Sun, about what the amount of food stamps given correlates to in terms of more food stamps mean the gap between rich and poor is widening.

What people have to understand is that our government won't get into anything it can't make money off of! Like you said, feeding the poor won't generate any income or produce any tax breaks for anyone. However, working the poor to death? Now we've got something . . .
