Re: Re: Ciel
I suppose they might well have swooned... or perhaps they simply fell over. My mom who will be 91 the end of this month falls over fairly often. Maybe she is thinking of gentlemen's knees...

Re: Ciel
Well Ciel I think you must have a photographic mind.
I have been posing in my 1949 bathing suit.
It was to bring back pleasant memories
to the residents of a nursing home.
Seven or was it eight? Octogenarian gentle ladies
swooned. Of course not many can achieve such
a feat, being of slight build and living a life of hardship.
I am not going to brag any more. It does come over my knees
a gentleman does not show his joints.

Re: Taps
Yes it is all expensive daring rides for those who have no idea that once one would go to the fair with sixpence and have a great time. Dahlias, Taps sadly some are two large for cut flowers and I have to snip the heads.

Re: Jimmy
I think I would probably have a set of dumbells Jimmy. It looks like it will be wet or I might have tried for a photo of the up and down horses. If ever I can get my strength back I will get a photo of lifting a half hundred weight with one finger. Just bragging.

Re: Kabu
I expect you would buy the lot Kabu, half price, if you behave. Really I am fed up with it the rain kept soaking the bags of apples and pears . I had to bring them inside and dry them out twice. I shall be glad to let Archie have the business, he is back today.

Re: Anohr
Isn't that more of an agricultural show Adnohr. Our old fairs used to sell bags of flour to poke down a girls back and water squirts. What joy. Yes Pat makes a nice little sensible comment.

Lovely flowers. All of our apples disappeared almost overnight with the deer and bear and leaving only a few for the crows Bro.

That's an impressive bucket of flora! And this business of the lady letting her hair down for the the wandering minstrel (or whatever he was) to climb up on - I never really believed that! Frayed ends, you know - too weak! Today ladies know about frayed ends and take care of them, but in those days, before TV, nobody knew of frayed ends, and their suitors would never have got off the ground...

Very pretty flowers! I enjoy the village fairs. Fortunately the one we have here hasn't changed much - still agriculture and home ec tents, beef and horse showings, demolition derby and, of course the midway and candy apples. My favorite ride was the merry-go-round, or carousel. We stayed on the ground.
Enjoyed Pat-B's response to your poem.

Oh, yes, the wetness can make the cutting difficult...A great question to ponder at the beginning of the poem.

Why, asks the country girl who learned no guile coming up
under mother's watchful eye, does the poet so praise the girl in the tower who's above it all and spends her days doing her hair? Does he not see a girl so shy, just across the cobbled street, moving quietly by?

A little tip: never climb or work amongst tall, wet flowers or plants unless you know you're going to take a nice hot shower afterward!
And you're right . . . the "older" fairs sound better. Hey, if they still had the people showing up with instruments of their trades, skills or special talents, as a writer, you could parade around with a huge ostrich feather quill pen! I'll bet that would be unique . . .

I haven't been to the State Fair for ever so long, for as you say it has gone to "high rides" (We call it the Midway) and loud music, and strange things to eat that cost a fortune, such as fried dill pickles on a stick. It definitely is not like it used to be.
This bucket of flowers is one of your prettiest. I love the colors.

The flowers are lovely!
And an easy solution to the wet: wear your bathing suit. I'll bet it's long in the leg, nearly to the knees, and has straps over the shoulder... If you don't have one, I think there is one in the costumes collection downstairs.
