Excellent photos! But you feed them almonds? I love almonds and feed them to myself! The squirrels get peanuts, which I don't like...

Re: Pat,
It's different when there is only one squirrel and she isn't creating a nuisance or mess. Just holy havoc when Davy spots her. I think dogs are born knowing the word, squirrel.
You could try putting some sticky tape on the rail, sticky side up, for long enough that they discover that rail is a very uncomfortable place to be!

I've a mixed reaction to squirrels these days.
While I think they're cute, the walnuts are falling from the neighbor's tree now, and the little buggers think the only place to rip off the green hulls and chew through the shell is on my porch railings - the hulls stain the wood, the cement, anything else - that dark walnut dye, and if I don't watch where I'm going I'll slip on the shells, which end up on the steps, etc... I tried sprinkling cayenne pepper on the railings, but it doesn't seem to be a miracle repellant.

LOL - I suppose the nuts could do it! I'd be wary of kitty too, if I was a squirrel. Great pictures once again!

Re: JimmyA,
Actually, and don't tell Kabu... they are a bit rancid. The little cute thing isn't getting my pecans!

Re: Blue Feathers,
We have smallish grey ones, too, with gold highlights. Not like the larger grey eastern squirrel.
These black ones are the same as the grey ones, but just black-brown in coloring.

Re: CCT,
She likes animals!
One of my favorites is the little one called by some the Jack Pine squirrel, that is small and very dark on the back, light gold on the belly, and with an orange stripe between the dark and the light. If you hear them in the trees, you might think you are listening to birds.

Thank you Ciel I did not bother to ask Kabu because I am an animal. I love your photos.
I wish I could see a red squirrel, but a black one would be better than the greys, although I did see a woman skinning some once,

Re: Kabu,
I knew you'd be here!
She got worried when the cat moved, and took off flying into the lilac bush, and left two almonds behind. I notice they are gone now.
