no they dont need two incomes to survive just to have all the goodies, I have a few friends that quit their jobs to go back to school and are surviving just fine with just the husbands income

I agree with JimmyA's comment.  I used to have my nails done and a pedicure when I worked because I could afford it and being in managment you need to put your best foot forward so to speak.  But when I retired those things ended for one I could not afford them anylonger so I gave them both up.  I live quite well without them.

When you "splurge" on something that costs more money than at least a week's worth of groceries, something is definitely wrong! Some people seem to have a warped sense of priorities . . .

I recently started pampering myself.  I did those things myself and preferred it that way. I find it necessary now to relieve stress and take the mind off things that must be endured. I just never took the time before. It is a choice and I understand what you mean by doing what one can afford.

Reading this reminds me of my cousin (Amanda). She complains about not having money, but she got her upper ear pierced.

I don't mind a pedicure and manicure....actually in the job she is working where you are looking after other people all the time, it is really nice to relax and let someone else pamper you.
