I love this post. I remember your princess from before.
I am fascinated how you might move that one inside when the time comes. I have two big plants about that height and heavy, and it is difficult to get them inside, and they don't have any needles.

That is amazing, especially since it is so much against the "norm." I guess it would like a "Morning Glory" opening up at 3:00 in the afternoon . . .

Lovely have you thought she may not have had the chance to be pollinated during those hours and needed a little extra time to be awarded that pleasure.

Perhaps the full-to-waning moon gave her a boost.
I saw a giant night-blooming cactus in Key West when I visited there about 7 or 8 years ago, and it was also amazing. Amazing life form, cactus.

Naut
She is so beautiful. I love plants and especially those who have exotic behavior or looks, she has both. Thanks for the photos.

Stunning! Totally beautiful... a gift of your cactus to you... as if he were thanking you for all the care and effort.. as if he knew you look forward every year to his one flower and did not want you to miss it... A miracle indeed for he who does not believe in them... ... or does he :-) xoxoxo
